Rock 'n' Roll-Arena Jena - For the colorful republic of Germany there was a music festival in Jena , which took place on December 2nd, 2011 in the Jenaer Paradiespark. About 50,000 people took part in the free concert against the right.

The concert

Udo Lindenberg and Sigmar Gabriel had the idea for the concert after the NSU terrorist cell was exposed and the background became known. The trio consisting of Beate Zschäpe , Uwe Böhnhardt and Uwe Mundlos came from Jena, so the concert location was certain. The concert was organized in just two weeks. The costs were 320,000 euros, the state of Thuringia contributed 75,000 euros while the lion's share was paid by the city of Jena.

The name is derived from two songs by Udo Lindenberg: Rock'n'Roll-Arena in Jena from the album Sister King Kong (1976) and Bunte Republik Deutschland from the album of the same name in 1989.

At the beginning there was an appeal for solidarity and the youngest victim of the neo-Nazi series of murders was remembered for a minute's silence . In addition to Udo Lindenberg, Peter Maffay , Julia Neigel , Silly and Clueso took part in the concert, all of whom waived their fees. About 50,000 people watched.

Sigmar Gabriel also gave speeches from Jürgen Trittin ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ), Albrecht Schröter (SPD), Bodo Ramelow ( Die Linke ) and Christine Lieberknecht (CDU, Prime Minister of Thuringia), youth pastor Lothar König and representatives of the action network against right-wing Jena .

It was the biggest concert that has taken place in Jena to date. Despite the large number of spectators, the concert was peaceful.

The Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk broadcast the event live. Lindenberg said on stage:

“Even if the occasion is rather a sad one, I am pleased that we have brought the artists' initiative 'Rock against Right-Wing Violence' back to life after a few years. This work must go on right now [...] Nobody is going to throw our Colorful Republic in a strange light, the Nazi terror must finally be over! "
