Rockumentary
The term rockumentary (German translation: rockumentation) describes a television program or a film that tells the story of a rock band or a musician or an event in a documentary manner. The word rockumentary is a suitcase word made up of the two sub-words "rock" and "documentary". The term was first used in 1969 on the History of Rock & Roll radio show . In 1984, film director Rob Reiner called his film This Is Spinal Tap Rockumentary. However, this film is a mockumentary , which can be seen as a satire in relation to rockumenatries, as it is not a real documentary, but the story of a fictional band. Classic rock mantaries are for example Woodstock , Dont Look Back or Monterey Pop .
Publications on the topic and analyzes have been appearing regularly since summer 2010 in the articles on film music research in Kiel and in the specially founded scientific internet magazine Rock and Pop in the Movies . A project group around Prof. Hans Jürgen Wulff, Patrick Niemeier and Susan Levermann focuses on the topic. In addition, some filmographs were made as part of these projects.
