Rattle and Hum is a documentary and rockumentary directed by Phil Joanou about U2's Joshua Tree Tour that premiered on October 27, 1988 at the Savoy Cinema in Dublin .

Despite the undisputed quality of the film, Rattle and Hum became one of the biggest failures in the band's history. Originally, the release of the fan-tailored documentation was only planned in a few selected cinemas. However, the later distribution partner Paramount Pictures decided to increase the number of halls used from a few hundred to several thousand. The much too large-scale promotion associated with it could not prevent the film from having to record a huge drop in viewers after the first good weekend. At the same time as the film was released, the band released the concert album Rattle and Hum .
