Rod Cameron

Rod Cameron (born December 7, 1910 in Calgary , Alberta , † December 21, 1983 in Gainesville , Georgia ; a native of Nathan Roderick Cox ) was a Canadian actor .

Life

Cameron had lived in the USA since 1930 and initially worked as a construction worker in the Los Angeles sewers . There he made his first contacts with Paramount Pictures as a stuntman and double . From 1939 he got small roles in American westerns. In 1943, the 1.96 meter tall giant achieved his breakthrough as the main actor in the form of Rex Bennett in Haruschi, son of Dr. Fu Man Chu ( G-men vs. the Black Dragon ) when he was under contract with Republic Pictures . As the successor to Johnny Mack Brown , he also received dramatic roles at Universal Pictures ; In 1947 he was with Monogram Picturesunder contract. From 1953 he was also seen in television series: First in City Detective (until 1955), then until 1959 in State Trooper and finally in Coronad 9 . Until the 1970s he was seen repeatedly with guest appearances on the screen.

In the sixties the actor was brought to Europe, where he was used in some Euro- westerns . In 1966, producer Horst Wendlandt gave him the title role of Old Firehand in the Karl May film Winnetou and his friend Old Firehand , but the hoped-for comeback did not materialize.

Cameron caused a sensation in his private life when he divorced his wife Angela Alves-Lico in order to marry her mother Dorothy. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is dedicated to him.
