Rodney Earland Paavola (born August 21, 1939 in Hancock , Michigan , † December 3, 1995 ) was an American ice hockey player . At the 1960 Winter Olympics , he won the gold medal as a member of the US national team.
Career
Rodney Paavola began his career as a hockey player with the Troy Bruins , for which he was active in the 1957/58 season in the International Hockey League . From 1958 to 1960, the defender took part in Team USA's preparation for the Olympic Games. In the 1960/61 season he played for the Muskegon Zephyrs in the IHL. The following season he spent with the Providence Reds from the American Hockey League , before he was on the ice for another two years in the IHL for his ex-team Muskegon Zephyrs. Following the 1965/66 season , which he had spent with the Dayton Gems in the IHL, the American ended his career at the age of 27.
International
For the USA Paavola took part in the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley , where he won the gold medal with his team. He was also in his country's squad for the 1959 World Cup .
