Roderich Egeler (born May 7, 1950 in Obernkirchen ) is a German economist and federal civil servant. From August 1, 2008 to October 2, 2015, he was the ninth President of the Federal Statistical Office and, in this role, was entrusted with the duties of the Federal Returning Officer. He was Walter Radermacher's successor . His successor, the then Vice President of the Federal Statistical Office, Dieter Sarreither , was appointed tenth President of the Federal Statistical Office on October 2, 2015.

Life

Egeler studied from 1972 to 1978 economics at the universities of Bonn and Cologne . After that he was a consultant, head of division and head of department in the Federal Office for Civil Protection until 1992 , with a focus on disaster control and the budget .

In 1991/1993 he became a consultant in the budget department of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and in May 1993 head of the procurement office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior .

Roderich Egeler is a member of the CDU and lives in Sankt Augustin .

In 2009 he gained greater prominence after the federal electoral committee chaired the complaints filed by four political groups ( Free Union , Die PARTTEI , Die Grauen , BPA - Die Bürgerpartei für “alle”) on August 6, 2009 against decisions by state election committees on the rejection rejected from state lists for the 2009 Bundestag election due to a lack of party characteristics within the meaning of the Federal Election Act or due to formal errors. In the case of Die PARTTEI and Die Grauen, the decision was unanimous; in the case of the Free Union, four members of the nine-member committee voted against the decision. The reasons for these decisions, the decisions themselves and Egeler's behavior during the complaint procedure led to criticism from parts of the German media and several party law experts. The Federal Constitutional Court rejected the motions of the gray and the PARTY to repeal the decisions of the Federal Electoral Committee as inadmissible. The applicants were referred to the possibility of an election review complaint after the election. On December 6, 2010, the PARTY filed an appeal on election review to the Federal Constitutional Court, which was rejected as inadmissible on April 12, 2011 (2 BvC 12/10).
