Rodney Richardson

Rodney Richardson (* 21 August 1917 in New Orleans ; † 29. October 2005 in Modesto , California ) was an American jazz - bassist .

Live and act

Rodney Richardson began his career in Territory Bands in Tennessee , u. a. in The Georgia Boys and the Royal Knights ; At times he also played rhythm guitar . In 1943 he toured California with Harlan Leonard's band, performed with Art Tatum and played in the Count Basie Orchestra from 1943 to 1947 , where he represented Walter Page during military service. During this time he worked as a session musician for recordings a. a. by Lester Young & the Kansas City Seven , Herbie Fields , Lucky Thompson and Roy Eldridge with. He played with Tiny Grimes and Erroll Garner in the 1950s, and with Duke Burrell 's Louisiana Shakers in the 1970s . Richardson, who last lived in California and died in 2005 at the age of 88, participated in 85 recording sessions from 1943 to 2000. He is a brother of soul bassist James "Beans" Richardson and cousin of opera singer Leontyne Price .
