Rodrigo Xavier Carreras Jiménez (* 1947 in San José (Costa Rica) ) is a Costa Rican diplomat .

Life

Rodrigo Xavier Carreras Jiménez is the son of Daisy Jiménez and Benjamín Núñez Vargas . He married Marta Eugenia Mora Rojas, their children are Isadora and Gustavo.

He holds a degree in political science from the Universidad de Costa Rica and a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley . On September 10, 1972, he entered the foreign service and had exequatur as consul general in San Francisco until 1976 . From 1982 to 1984 he was ambassador to Brasília . From 1994 to 1998 he was State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry.

From October 15, 1998 to 2001, he was ambassador to Jerusalem and, from January 21, 2000, was also accredited to Ankara based in Jerusalem . In 1999, in Ramallah , Carreras met Ahmed Soboh, Head of Development Cooperation at the Palestinian Authority, and Ibrahim al-Zeben, Head of Latin America at the Palestinian Authority. In September 1999, Yasser Arafat met the President of Costa Rica, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez , in New York . In 1999, Ahmed Soboh announced the continued interest in funding scholarships for Palestinians at universities in Costa Rica. In 2000 the embassy in Jerusalem and staff at Bethlehem University prepared an expandable research project on the experience of Costa Rica as a state without an army and its potential for Palestine. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem cooperated on this research project. Rodrigo Xavier Carreras Jiménez gave lectures on the subject at Bethlehem University and in the Gaza Strip .

From 2001 to 2003 he was head of the Institutos del Servicio Exterior MMP (advanced training facility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costarica). From 2003 to June 1, 2006 he was ambassador to Managua . He has been the ambassador to Tel Aviv since August 2006 .
