Roel Braas

Roel Hubertus Braas (born March 11, 1987 in Alkmaar ) is a Dutch rower .

In the U23 World Championships in 2009 Braas rowed in one to second place behind the German Lauritz Schoof . In 2010 Braas competed in the adult class and took 15th place at the European Championships and 13th place at the World Championships . In 2011 Braas moved to the Dutch eighth and achieved sixth place at the world championships in this boat class . In 2012, Braas finished fifth at the Olympic Games with the Dutch eighth .

In 2013, Braas returned to the one. He won the bronze medal at the European Championships and took fifth place at the World Championships . After ninth place at the 2014 World Championships and eleventh place at the 2015 European Championships , Braas left the one again and formed a two-man without a helmsman with Mitchel Steenman . With a fourth place at the 2015 World Championships , the two managed to qualify directly for the 2016 Olympic Games. Braas and Steenman started the 2016 Olympic season by winning the bronze medal at the 2016 European Championships . At the 2016 Olympic Games , the two Dutch came in eighth.

At the European Championships 2017 , Braas rowed in the Dutch eighth, the one with Boaz Meylink , Kaj Hendriks , Tone Wieten , Roel Braas, Ruben Knab , Mechiel Versluis , Robert Lücken , Björn van den Ende and helmsman Diederik van Engelenburg behind the large boats from Germany and from Poland won the bronze medal.

The 2.00 m tall Braas rows in Amsterdam for the Okeanos club .
