history

The company was founded in 1941 and was based in Kempten for a short time. Production in Memmingen started in 1944. Production was located on Augsburger Strasse in rented rooms in the building of the former Günzburger knitwear factory. This production facility no longer exists today, but has been replaced by a residential building.

In 1960 production was expanded and the company moved into the purchased building of the former Kosmos cigarette factory on Riedbachstrasse, where the company is still located today.

In 1988 a new hall for assembly production was opened, which was called Factory of the Future and was the most modern plant in Europe for electronics production. In addition to the latest assembly machines and soldering systems, the special thing was the material flow. The required components were automatically transported from a central warehouse to the workplaces of the employees. Thanks to ongoing investments, production is still state-of-the-art.

Due to the boom in the mobile communications sector, production was expanded again in 2000. In the additional part of the plant, products from the areas of measurement technology and radio technology are manufactured. Following the expansion of the production area, a new company restaurant was opened in 2001, in which 750 lunches can be served.

In 2005 the production capacities in the field of radio communication, monitoring and location technology were expanded and a large logistics center was opened, from which customers are supplied directly.

In honor of the company's founders Lothar Rohde and Hermann Schwarz , the city of Memmingen renamed the former Tabakstrasse to Rohde-und-Schwarz-Strasse in 2006.
