The Roitzschberg is an elevation up to 158 meters high in the Saxon district of Meißen on the northwestern edge of the Elbe valley .

Location and surroundings

The mountain is located in the northern part of the Nassau landscape protection area , which is embedded between the Spaar Mountains in the southwest, the Großenhainer Pflege in the north, the Moritzburger Land in the east and the upper Elbe in the south. The porcelain town of Meißen and the Saxon state capital Dresden are also not far away .

geology

The Roitzschberg is located in the immediate vicinity of the Lusatian Fault and consists of two peaks. The one, 158 m high, which supports a winegrower's house, is built up from loose sediments from Nordic and local rubble. These gravel, terminal moraines from the Cold Age, are part of a row of hills that can be traced from Diera-Zehren to Oberau via Gröbern . A mansion stood on the other summit , made entirely of marl .

history

A ridge descends steeply to Nassau, which is marked by the church of Gröbern and the jagged summit of a winegrower's house. The latter belongs to a former manor that was endowed with upper jurisdiction over the winemakers. In 1233, Margrave Heinrich transferred the Rodewansberch vineyard to be declared a mountain settlement for Radevan, the monastery of the Holy Cross in Meissen . After secularization , the vineyard came into the possession of the Proschwitz manor , from which the local manor was founded in 1661. The lower winery with cellars and once with a press rises up after the street. Cast iron rings are hung on the outer wall of a cellar. Hoses were attached to them leading from the wine press in the open air into the cellar.

flora

The Roitzschberg is known to botanists for the large occurrence of the wild tulip ( Tulipa silvestris ). This species came here as a new immigrant (neophyte) from the Mediterranean region, probably with wine cultures.

On the summit of the mountain there are groups of trees made of field maple, service tree, summer linden and horse chestnut. Numerous species of sunny and shallow locations thrive near the dilapidated walls of the former manor house, such as the hairy violet (Viola hirta), the little meadow button (Sanguisorba minor) and the real sky key (Primula veris), as well as the annual sub-Mediterranean species of the dolphin spur (Holosteum umbellatum) and the wax purse herb perfoliatum). The bushes formed by privet, field maple and dogwood give numerous heat-loving plants favorable location conditions.

Paths to the summit

The Roitzschberg is located immediately south of Radeburger Straße ( S 177 ), which leaves Gröbern on the western edge of the village. A branching path "Am Roitzschberg" enables an ascent.
