Rokossowo ( Ukrainian Рокосово ; Russian Рокосов Rokossow , Hungarian Rakasz , Slovak Rokosov ) is a village in the Ukrainian Transcarpathian Oblast with about 4700 inhabitants (2004).
geography
Rokossowo is the administrative center of the eponymous, 96.22 km² district council with about 5200 inhabitants in the west of the Rajon Khust , to which the village of Wertep ( Вертеп ⊙ ) with about 460 inhabitants belongs.
The village lies in the valley of the Tisza on the trunk road N 09 and the railway line Debrecen-Sighetu Marmaţiei . The Khust district center is 12 km east and the Uzhhorod oblast center 100 km northwest of the village.
history
The village was first mentioned in writing in 1300 and is one of the oldest villages in Transcarpathia. Until 1919, the village in the historical Maramureş region belonged to the Hungarian part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and then as part of the Carpathian-Ukraine to Czechoslovakia . It was annexed to Hungary between 1939 and 1945. In 1945 the village became part of the Ukrainian SSR within the Soviet Union and since 1991 Rokossovo has been part of the independent Ukraine.
