Roland Kiefaber (born September 19, 1942 ) is a former German soccer player and coach . The defender played a total of 80 league games for 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga between 1963 and 1969 . In the last round of the first-class Southwest soccer league , 1962/63, he won the championship with FCK and played all six group games in the final round of the German soccer championship .

Career

Roland Kiefaber moved in 1962 at the age of 19 from FC Phönix Otterbach from the lower amateur area in the West Palatinate to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Oberliga Südwest. From the contract player camp, the FCK also strengthened with Willy Reitgaßl (Karlsruher SC), Erich Meier (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Willi Kostrewa (Eintracht Gelsenkirchen). The defensive talent from Otterbach made his debut on September 2nd, 17 days before his 20th birthday, in an away game against Wormatia Worms, in the league. With Heinrich Bauer and Jürgen Neumann he formed the runner row in a 1: 3 away defeat. In the last season of the Oberliga as the highest German division, he completed 16 league games without scoring. As champions of the Oberliga Südwest , FCK qualified for the final round of the German championship . Kiefaber took part in all six group games of FCK against Hertha BSC, 1. FC Cologne and 1. FC Nürnberg, none of which could be won. In the 2-8 defeat at 1. FC Köln, he fought as a right defender against Cologne left winger Heinz Hornig . The injury to goalkeeper Wolfgang Schnarr already contributed significantly to the high result after 16 minutes. After the Cologne goal in the 51st minute to make it 3-2, Schnarr had to clear the gate and FCK attacker Manfred Feldmüller conceded the remaining five Cologne hits.

From 1963 he was then a Bundesliga player with the "Red Devils". Kiefaber belongs to the group of players who, on August 24, 1963, got the new performance concentration up and running in the DFB. With Schnarr, Werner Mangold , Willi Wrenger , Dieter Pulter and Jürgen Neumann , he formed the defensive on the opening day of the Bundesliga in a 1-1 away draw at Eintracht Frankfurt. Kiefaber was in the 5-0 away win on October 26, 1963 at 1. FC Nürnberg, but also in the two major defeats on November 16 against Borussia Dortmund (3: 9) and on April 18, 1964 against Hamburger SV ( 3: 7) in the debut round of the Bundesliga. Kaiserslautern took 12th place and Kiefaber had actively participated in 22 Bundesliga games under coach Günter Brocker . In May and June he also experienced the international matches against SC Enschede, VAV Beerschot and FC Grenchen in the Intertoto Cup . When in the second Bundesliga round, 1964/65, Werner Liebrich had to step in as a "savior" from February 27, 1965, the defender repeated his numbers from the first Bundesliga year. He was then also in the final 2: 1 away win on May 15, 1965 at Eintracht Frankfurt at the side of Dietmar Schwager and colleagues, with which the 13th place was reached with 25:35 points.

For the 1965/66 season, Gyula Lóránt, a new coach, and Otto Geisert , Uwe Klimaschefski and Manfred Rummel , three new players, came to Kaiserslautern. Surprisingly, the young defender Herward Koppenhöfer from Wacker Weidenthal from the Neustädter Tal developed into one of the league's most promising defensive talents and immediately made 23 appearances. Due to the new competition from Klimaschefski and Koppenhöfer, in conjunction with the existing defensive players Willi Kostrewa, Dietmar Schwager and Gerd Schneider, Kiefaber only made 16 round appearances in 1965/66 when he reached 15th place in the Bundesliga, which was for the first time equipped with 18 clubs. When in the second Lorant year, 1966/67, the "Red Devils" unexpectedly managed to move up to fifth place, the number of appearances of the man from Otterbach fell to 12 Bundesliga appearances. Now he still had the tough competitor Otto Rehhagel in front of him in the FCK defense , the ex-Essener had come to Betzenberg from Hertha BSC, and ensured that Lautern had the best round result so far with a goal difference of 43:42 goals reached in the Bundesliga. In his last two seasons, 1967/68 and 1968/69, Kiefaber was only used as a supplementary player. The defender played the last Bundesliga game on March 15, 1969 in a 0-1 away defeat at Alemannia Aachen, when he came on in the 13th minute for the injured Rehhagel.

By 1969 he was used 80 times in the 1st Bundesliga - again without scoring. In the DFB Cup , Kiefaber made it to the semi-finals twice with 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the rounds of 1965/66 and 1968/69 . In 1966 he failed with his teammates 3: 4 at Meidericher SV, in 1969 at FC Schalke 04 in the replay.

For the season 1969/70 Kiefaber went back to the amateur camp and took over the position of player-coach at the lower class SV Niederkirchen in the district of Kaiserslautern. He held this office until 1980. As a player-coach in the A-class West Palatinate center, he was appointed by the regional association Southwest to play selection games for the national cup .
