Roland Wegerer (* 1974 in Amstetten ) is an Austrian visual artist .

Live and act

Wegerer completed an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman and office clerk . From 1997 he worked intensively with artistic forms of expression and completed his five-year study of fine arts at the Art University Linz in 2010 . To supplement his training, he attended seminars on topics such as project management , rhetoric , associations and moderation . In 2011 he was artist in residence in the guest studio of the Province of Upper Austria in Malo .

The artist lives and works in Linz and St. Nikola on the Danube . He uses different media such as video , photography , sculpture , installation or performance to create works of art . Some works were created as projects of art in public spaces and art in buildings .

The idea of establishing an international video art festival in the Strudengau region came from Roland Wegerer and Anna Maria Brandstätter . Wegerer has been organizing the only Austrian video art festival in Grein since 2011, the danubeVIDEOARTfestival. The festival sees itself as a form of presentation of the latest international video art in rural areas with international networking.
In 2011 the festival took place from March 4th to 6th.
In 2013 the festival took place from October 18th to 20th. The selection of 64 films was made by a jury consisting of Larisa Colesnicov , Elisabeth Kramer and Roland Wegerer. 437 artists from 65 countries responded to the call and submitted a total of 608 videos.
In 2016 the festival was held from February 19th to 21st. The selection of more than eighty films from the more than 1400 submissions from 74 countries was made by the curators Antonia Zimmermann and Burkhard Zimmermann as well as Roland Wegerer.
