life and work

Roland Wesner was born on March 11, 1940 in Stuttgart-West. From 1954 to 1957 he completed an apprenticeship in toolmaking at Dürr . From 1957 to 1961 he worked for Robert Bosch GmbH . In 1961 Roland married Wesner. In the same year he was accepted at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and began studying in the painting class with Manfred Henninger . He received essential impulses from Albrecht Appelhans , with whom he became a master student in 1963. In addition, he attended the Studium generale at the universities of Stuttgart and Tübingen, which taught him the basics of anatomy, psychology and philosophy. Towards the end of his studies in 1964 he took part in projects of glass art, wall painting and art in construction with Rudolf Yelin .

His commitment to the art scene in his area made him the initiator and founding member of the Ludwigsburg Art Association in 1973 . The Ludwigsburg open-air gallery with sculptures in public space goes back to his initiative. In 1972 he took on a teaching position as a freelance artist at the Friedrich-List-Gymnasium Asperg . In 1975/76 he survived a life-threatening illness and found new image forms in increasingly smaller image formats. Throughout his “school days” he always remained productive and created a multitude of poetic images. In 1986 he received the order for a series of colored windows for the funeral hall in Ingersheim (Neckar) , Ludwigsburg district, which could only be realized after his death in 1988/89. Roland Wesner died on May 25, 1987 in Ludwigsburg.

Roland Wesner's oeuvre includes painterly and graphic works, including 25 serigraphs.
