Rolando José Álvarez Lagos (born November 27, 1966 in Managua , Nicaragua ) is a Nicaraguan clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Matagalpa .

Life

Rolando José Álvarez Lagos completed his studies in philosophy and theology in Guatemala and graduated from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome . He received a degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Rolando Lagos José Álvarez was on 7 December 1994 for the Archdiocese of Managua to ordained priests . Since then he has worked as a professor and prefect at the seminary of the Archdiocese of Managua (1994-2006), as coordinator of the youth ministry of the archdiocese (since 1998), as director of the Catholic radio station Radio Nicaragua (since 2001), as secretary of the department for social communications Nicaraguan Bishops' Conference (since 2003), as secretary for information and spokesman for the Archdiocese of Managua (from 2005), as coordinator of national youth pastoral care (since 2006), as pastor of the parish of San Francisco de Asís in Managua (since 2006) and as secretary of the secretariat of the Episcopate of Central America (since 2009).

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Matagalpa on March 8, 2011. The Archbishop of Managua, Leopoldo José Brenes Solórzano , donated him episcopal ordination on April 2nd of the same year . Co- consecrators were his predecessor and bishop of Granada , Jorge Solórzano Pérez , and the apostolic nuncio in Nicaragua, Archbishop Henryk Józef Nowacki .
