Rudolf "Rolf" Becker (born September 12, 1912 in Erfurt ; † May 9, 1984 ) was a German teacher and poet . He wrote almost 500 poems and numerous anecdotes and home stories from his adopted home Swabia and Weinsberg , some of which were collected in three volumes.

Life

Becker was born in Erfurt; his mother, who died in 1938, was a teacher. He wanted Medicine study what failed because of financial difficulties. Instead, he learned the trade of bookseller , which he did not. After the Reich Labor Service he served as a soldier in World War II and after the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the United States and Britain for one year .

He then settled with his brother in Unterkochen , where he worked in an ironworks. Due to his musical talent, he also worked as a pianist at a gymnastics school. He made the decision to take up the teaching profession like his mother and in 1947 was initially an assistant teacher in the school service in Heilbronn . In 1949 he passed the first service examination for teaching at elementary schools at the Pedagogical Institute in Künzelsau . He also obtained the C-certificate as a church musician at a church music school .

From 1949 to 1953 he worked as a teacher in Cleebronn , where he also directed the church choir and was also a freelancer for several newspapers. At the suggestion of the Heilbronn State Education Authority, he reported to Weinsberg , where he took up his new position at the elementary school in November 1953. At the school he took over the student choir and built a school orchestra. At the local group of the Swabian Alb Association he was press officer and headed the singing group, from 1963 he was a shop steward. He also wrote the melody of a Weinsberg song , the text of which was written by the former Weinsberg dean Erich Weismann. As a freelancer, he published numerous concert and event reports , reflections and glosses in the news paper for the town of Weinsberg and in the Heilbronner Voice , sometimes under the abbreviation robe . From 1957 to 1961, Becker's weekly poems also appeared regularly in Heilbronner Voice .

Due to a heart attack in the fall of 1964, Becker had to retire, which he spent with his wife Anni in Weinsberg. After a first volume of poetry had appeared in 1963, he published several other books until 1972. Becker's reports continued to appear in the Weinsberger Nachrichtenblatt until the end of 1976, when he had to give up reporting and further writing due to serious illnesses. His local history of Weinsberg, which he wanted to publish under the title Weinsberg in the past and present , remained unfinished.

Becker died at the age of 72 and was buried in the Weinsberg cemetery. The local Weinsberg group of the Swabian Alb Association cultivates the memory of him.
