Rolf Colsman (born March 6, 1931 in Langenberg (Rhineland) , † July 5, 2010 in Velbert ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

Colsman studied at the Universities of Tübingen , Cologne and Harvard University . In 1961 he became managing partner of the traditional weaving mill and family company Gebrüder Colsman based in Essen - Kupferdreh . Colsman was involved in local politics and was parliamentary group leader of the FDP in the Neviges city ​​council from 1970 to 1975 . Even after it was incorporated into the city of Velbert, he was a member of its council until 1984.

He joined the Essener Unternehmensverband e. V. (EUV), on whose advisory board he was elected in 1970. In 1985 he became a member of the board and was its chairman from 1995 to 2000. In 2000 he was appointed honorary chairman of the EUV. He was also deputy president of the Essen Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mülheim an der Ruhr , and Oberhausen zu Essen.

In addition, Rolf Colsman was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the BCW Group and accompanied the nationwide and international expansion of its educational institutions (including FOM University ).

Honors

The Kostroma State University in Russia awarded him an honorary doctorate for his services to the expansion of educational institutions for working people and the expansion of international relations in science and research . In addition, he was honored by the Shanxi University of Finance and Economics in Taiyuan , China, for promoting a Sino-German study program by being made an honorary professor. In 1997, the Federal President awarded him the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
