Rolf Fieguth

Rolf Fieguth (born November 2, 1941 in Berlin ) is a German Slavist and professor emeritus for Slavic languages and literatures at the University of Freiburg (Switzerland).

Life

After studying Slavic Studies and Eastern European History in West Berlin and Munich and receiving his doctorate on Adam Mickiewicz , he conducted research at academy institutes in Warsaw and Moscow and, after completing his habilitation, taught at the University of Konstanz , the University of Mannheim and the Universiteit van Amsterdam . From 1980 to 1983 he was Professor of Slavic Studies at the Eastern European Institute of the Free University of Berlin , from April 1983 until his retirement in 2007 he was Professor of Slavic Languages ​​and Literatures at the University of Freiburg.

His main research interests are literary theory ( Russian formalism , Central European structuralism , Roman Ingarden , theory of the cycle of poems and poems ), Russian literature from the 18th to 20th centuries and Polish literature from the 16th to 20th centuries. He also works as an editor and translator of scientific and literary works from Russian, Polish and French. He is the editor of a German-Polish edition of Cyprian Norwid's cycle of poems Vade ‐ mecum (1866) and, together with Fritz Arnold , of Witold Gombrowicz's collected works .

He is married to the artist and translator Hilde Fieguth, has a grown daughter and lives in Freiburg in Üechtland.
