Scientific work

Ingarden devoted himself primarily to the phenomenological view of ontology and aesthetics . He dealt with the layered structure of categories of works of art, the schematic form of works of art and the synthetic nature of film. With his writings he also had a great influence on the later aesthetics of reception .

He was particularly interested in ontology. He laid down his philosophy of art in the two-volume work “The Controversy over the Existence of the World” (1947, 1948). In addition, he dealt with the philosophy of literature in "The literary work of art" (1931), the philosophy of film in "Notes on the art of film" (1957) and epistemology and aesthetics in "The position of epistemology in the system of philosophical sciences “(1925). Ingarden rejected the transcendental turn of the late Husserl . The later Solidarność philosopher Józef Tischner became Ingardens most important pupil .

He has written his works in Polish and German. He achieved his international fame primarily as an aesthetician.
