Rolf Hörler (born September 26, 1933 in Uster ; died August 17, 2007 in Wädenswil ) was a Swiss poet .

Life

Rolf Hörler grew up in St. Gallen from the age of six . He attended the Mariaberg teachers' seminar in Rorschach and then worked as a teacher in Burgau , Flawil , Zurich and Richterswil for over 40 years . Since 1994 he has lived as a freelance writer alternately in Wädenswil on Lake Zurich and on La Mausse ( Berlou , Arrondissement Béziers ) in Languedoc .

He has published numerous volumes of poetry and was editor of the magazine reflexe . In his poems he addresses language, its inadequacies and the border areas between sayability and unspeakability. As an example, the poem Behausung from the last volume of poetry Federlesen from 2003:

He withdrew into
the word
as if into a snail shell,
on a seemingly endless
spiral staircase that led inward
in ever tighter turns
.
The word
in which he
locked himself up
and which from then on
served him as a dwelling
, he did not reveal to anyone,
because he wanted to remain undetectable
in this one word
in the form of a spiral
.

Rolf Hörler died of cancer in 2007 at the age of 73.
