Rolf Lezgus (born March 4, 1922 in Münster , † February 13, 2009 ) was a German football player . At Preußen Münster he played 243 league games from 1948 to 1958 in what was then the first-class football league West and scored 34 goals.

Career

Lezgus started playing soccer at Preußen Münster at the age of ten . In 1939 he made his first game in the first team.

After the end of World War II , Münster played in the Westphalia League. Lezgus was one of the players who finished fourth in the 1946/47 season and thus were not qualified for the Oberliga West starting from 1947/48. In the World Cup system of that time, mostly playing in the position of the half left or left outer runner, he rose to the top football league with Prussia in 1948 . Prussia won the championship in Group 2 of the Westphalia League in 1947/48 and prevailed in five games against SuS Recklinghausen for promotion. Goalkeeper Otto Mierzowski was already there like Lezgus and Willy Multhaup is training the team from the provincial capital. Münster made his debut on September 12, 1948 with a 1-0 home win against Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Oberliga West; Lezgus played on half-left.

In the 1950/51 season he moved into the finals of the German soccer championship with the Prussians as runner-up in the Oberliga West, one point behind FC Schalke 04 , where the "Adler" prevailed in their preliminary group against 1. FC Nürnberg . In the final on June 30, 1951 in Berlin, Lezgus was in the team that lost to 1. FC Kaiserslautern after a 1-0 lead with 1: 2. At the start of the season, the black and white Greens from the cathedral city were able to sign three powerful offensive forces: Felix Gerritzen , Alfred Preißler and Rudolf Schulz . Together with the attackers Josef Lammers and Siegfried Rachuba , who had already reached the round in 1949/50, Münster had an outstanding attack quintet at its disposal. One of the reasons for the newcomers was the introduction of the contract player in the football west on July 24, 1949. "The monthly salaries ranged between DM 160 and DM 320 at first. The maximum salary was roughly equivalent to the wages of a skilled worker."

Lezgus now played in the runner row, very often alongside center runner Kurt Pohnke . The man from his own ranks played in the most successful Prussian round, 1950/51, all 30 league games and also the seven games in the final round of the German championship. In the association round Ferdinand Fabra exercised the coaching office, before the final round Willy Multhaup took over his function.

In the ninth league year, 1956/57, the 34-year-old was still part of the regular Münster line-up with 28 appearances and five goals. With 25:35 points and 13th place, SV Sodingen, SW Essen and Borussia Mönchengladbach were relegated to the last places. With his use on September 1, 1957 in the 3: 3 home draw against VfL Bochum, the senior ended his almost twenty-year activity in the 1st team of Prussia Münster.

In 2008 he was honored for his 75-year membership at Preußen Münster. He died on February 13, 2009 at the age of 86.

Professional

In addition to football, Lezgus worked as an employee at the Provinzial-Versicherung .
