Rolf Martin

Rolf Martin (born December 10, 1922 in Hainspitz ; † August 4, 1999 ) was an officer in the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic . With his retirement he was given the rank of major general a. D. awarded.

Military career

After eight years of schooling, the son of a worker learned the profession of a lathe operator from 1937 to 1940 and then joined the Wehrmacht , where he was ultimately captured by the Soviets at the end of the war with the rank of infantry sergeant.

In 1948 he returned to the Soviet occupation zone , joined the SED and in October 1948 the armed organs ( German People's Police ). Here he was in succession until 1951 group leader, platoon leader, head of the training command and finally command leader of the 7th People's Police Readiness Thuringia in Gotha . From September 1951 to August 1952 took Martin with Helmut Borufka , Erich Dirwelis , Fritz Peter , Helmut Poppe , Horst Stechbarth , fritz streletz , Siegfried Weiss , Werner Winter and other later NVA generals at a special training course for budding regimental commanders in Volsk in Saratov in Soviet Union part. On his return he was an officer in the operational department of the Ministry of the Interior. From 1953 to 1958 he served as an officer and senior officer in the 1st administration of the Barracked People's Police (KVP) and in the Operational Section in the Ministry of National Defense . He then worked until 1962 as an employee in the security department of the Central Committee of the SED. In 1963 Martin was an officer student at the NVA military academy in Dresden .

He then served as an officer in the control committee of the National Defense Council of the GDR until 1970 . In 1970, Martin rose to head this control group. He held this position until his retirement on February 28, 1986. On that day he resigned and was appointed major general ret. D. from active duty.

Martin was a holder of the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold (1982), the Kampforden "For Merit for People and Fatherland" in gold as well as various other orders and decorations .
