Rolf Rödel

Rolf Rödel (born April 5, 1940 in Wünschendorf ; Greiz district ; † October 17, 2013 in Rostock ) was a rear admiral in the People's Navy of the German Democratic Republic .

Life

Rödel, the son of a bricklayer, attained higher maturity in 1958 and joined the armed organs of the GDR as a sailor on September 1 of that year . From 1959 to 1962 he graduated from the officers' college of the Volksmarine Karl Liebknecht in Stralsund and became a member of the SED in 1960 . After completing his studies, he became an assistant to the commander of a torpedo speedboat brigade of the 1st Flotilla . From 1963 to 1965 he was in command of a torpedo speedboat and for the following two years was head of a torpedo speedboat division of the 6th Flotilla . After studying at the Soviet Naval Warfare Academy NG Kuznetsov from 1970 to 1973, he was employed as deputy head of a rocket and torpedo speedboat brigade of the 6th Flotilla from 1973 to 1974. For the next two years he was head of the 3rd Missile and Torpedo Speedboat Brigade. Rödel served as chief of staff and deputy to the chief of the 4th flotilla from 1976 to 1980 at the Hohe Düne base and was appointed its chief from 1980 to 1985. The graduate military scientist was appointed rear admiral on October 7, 1983, the 34th anniversary of the founding of the GDR, and from 1985 to 1987 was chief of staff for operational work in the Volksmarine command. Until his release on October 2, 1990, he was used as "Deputy Chief of the People's Navy and Chief of Staff" in the command of the People's Navy.
