Rolf Wedewer

Rolf Wedewer (born September 13, 1932 in Münster , † October 26, 2010 in Leverkusen ) was a German art historian , curator and museum director.

Wedewer was born the son of the painter Josef Wedewer . He studied art history , geography , philosophy and German at the University of Münster , where he became an active member of the Catholic student association KStV Cimbria in the KV . After completing his doctorate, he worked as a journalist for radio, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Second German Television . From 1965 to 1995 Wedewer was director of the Museum Schloss Morsbroich in Leverkusen, where he focused his purchase and exhibition policy on European Informel (including Peter Brüning , Karl Fred Dahmen , Bernard Schultze , Emilio Vedova ), the new tendencies ( Piero Manzoni , Lucio Fontana ), who dedicated ZERO , Op-Art , analytical painting and monochrome. He was the author of numerous books on modern art . In 1999 he received the Kurt Lorenz Prize , Leverkusen. In 2001 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . Rolf Wedewer was the initiator of the Wolf Vostell project and the Fluxus movement in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2005 to set up a collection and research center in the Morsbroich Museum, but this could not be realized.

Wedewer lived in Leverkusen, he was married to Ursula Wedewer-Böcker, the couple had a daughter.
