Act
In the works of Karl Fred Dahmen, the influence of Tachism can already be found in his pictures from the early work phase. In addition to tachistic-oriented images, the artist's early work also included wood collages . From the mid-1960s onwards, Dahmen increasingly integrated various objects into his pictures; material pictures and object boxes emerge with which Dahmen pursues goals similar to the “ Nouveaux Réalistes ”, namely a link between the work of art and life through real things. His Munich professorship prompted Karl Fred Dahmen to settle in 1967 in Niederham im Chiemgau , the landscape of which became his great reservoir ("Telelandschaften"). He later mounted found objects from the area into these upholstered pictures and used them to create symbolic monuments that ran counter to beauty (»Galgenbilder«, »Chiemgaulegende«). In his last years Dahmen painted bright, silent pictures full of ciphers and notations.
