Life

Lauter attended the Karlsgymnasium in Munich-Pasing from 1957 to 1965 and then completed - interrupted by a course at the bookseller school in Frankfurt - a training course at the Callwey Verlag in Munich. There he was taken over as a manufacturer in the editorial team of the architecture magazine Baumeister in 1968 . From 1969 to 1972 he studied graphic design at the U5 in Munich and then free painting and graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts under Professor Karl Fred Dahmen (diploma 1978). Fellow students there included Günther Förg , Wolfgang Flatz , Hans Schnell and Hermann Wilhelm . As a freelance graphic designer, he mainly designed book covers for well-known publishers ( Desch , Deutsche Buchgemeinschaft , Büchergilde Gutenberg , Droemer , Econ , Heyne , Piper , List ); as a photographer, he has so far published 21 books, some of which are about architecture and others to assign literary photo essay. Five of his titles were released under license in Belgium, France and Italy. As an artist, Lauter deals with "photo painting" and "text or text images". The latter, which can be assigned to Concrete Art and partially to Concrete Poetry , were exhibited in Munich in the Kunstverein and in the town hall. His penchant for cats is due to numerous photo works in black and white for the publishing house Schöffling & Co. (e.g. in "The large cat lexicon" or in the " literary cat calendar "). Lauter has been the drummer of the »Beatstones« since 1965 and is responsible for the title "I hau ab" on the 1984 single by the Munich band.
