Kyra Stromberg (born January 16, 1916 in Moscow , † November 29, 2006 in Bad Krozingen ) was a German freelance publicist , writer and translator .

Life

Stromberg grew up in Hamburg and Berlin . After her studies, she worked as a photographer and after the Second World War earned her living as a correspondent for the magazines that had just been created - that's how she came to Baden-Württemberg . Stromberg has lived as a freelance journalist for newspapers , magazines and radio in Ehrenkirchen near Freiburg im Breisgau since the 1970s . She published essays and features on writers and cultural topics of all kinds; In addition to fiction , she was particularly interested in architecture and design .

Stromberg became known with her biographies about Djuna Barnes and Zelda Fitzgerald as well as F. Scott Fitzgerald . With her great Djuna Barnes biography, she also made a decisive contribution to the reception of this author in Germany. Stromberg has translated more than 40 books into German during her career , including works by John Berger , Joanne Greenberg , Muriel Spark , Edith Wharton and Virginia Woolf . She was a critic primarily of Anglo-Saxon literature of the 20th century.
