Roméo Elvis (born December 13, 1992 in Uccle , Belgium ; real name Roméo Johnny Elvis Kiki van Laeken ) is a Belgian rapper .

life and career

Roméo Elvis was born in Uccle on December 13, 1992 as the son of the Belgian singer Marka and the comedian Laurence Bibot. His younger sister is the equally successful singer Angèle van Laeken . He grew up in Linkebeek , a suburb of Brussels . He later moved to Forest. After graduating from college, he devoted himself to projects at the Saint-Luc Tournai Institute . He later studied photojournalism in Brussels. During this time he also developed an affinity for rapping . In 2013 he released his first EP Bruxelles c'est devenu la jungle . He also worked as a cashier in the Carrefour supermarket chain . Only shortly before starting work on the album Bruxelles arrive he devoted himself exclusively to music. His debut album Morale, in collaboration with Le Motel, was released on February 28, 2016 and was the first of his works to hit the Walloon charts. The series was continued with Morale 2 on March 17, 2017. Not only did the album reach number three in its home country, it also rose to number six in the French album charts. Only a little later he was able to celebrate success in the single charts with the releases Hit Sale (collaboration with therapy taxi) and Tout oublier (collaboration with Angèle). With his first solo album Chocolat in April 2019, he positioned himself at the top of the Walloon album charts for the first time . The singles Malade and Soleil also achieved top 10 placements in Belgium and France.

His style is particularly influenced by electronic music and, due to the collaboration with Le Motel, also by jazz . His influences include the Belgian group L'or de Commun, to which he also belonged at times, as well as the rappers Alpha Wann and Fuzati.
