Ron ("Ronnie") Theodorus Stam (born June 18, 1984 in Breda ) is a former Dutch football player .

Career

Stam played in the youth division of NAC Breda between 1992 and 1997 , before moving to the youth division of Feyenoord Rotterdam for five years . In 2002 he returned to play for another year for the youth teams. He was then accepted into the club's professional squad. In 2002/03 he made his league debut in the Eredivisie . In the following year he made the breakthrough. Year after year, Stam came on regular assignments. In the summer of 2008, the season had already started, league rivals Twente Enschede recruited him . The midfielder managed to assert himself and made 24 appearances in his first year at Twente. At the end of the season they became Dutch vice-champions and moved into the final of the KNVB Cup , which was lost to SC Heerenveen . The following year Stam was definitely a regular at Twente. With 33 appearances, he had the second most on the team behind Sander Boschker . At the end of the 2009/10 season , the team won the first Dutch championship in the club's history. In the summer of 2010 he signed a three-year contract with Wigan Athletic . After the 2012/13 season, in which he won the FA Cup with Wigan , but was also relegated from the Premier League , he moved to the Belgian first division club Standard Liège.
