Ronald Vincent "Ron" Webb (born June 29, 1932 in Penshurst , Sydney , † March 1, 2020 in Farnham , Surrey , United Kingdom ) was an Australian cyclist , sports official and builder of cycle tracks . He designed the slope in the London Olympic Velodrome for the 2012 Olympic Games in London .

At the age of 21, Ron Webb, who had previously become Australian cycling champion, came to Europe to ride a bike, first as an amateur and later as a professional . He settled in the Netherlands . After retiring from active cycling, he moved to England and was the organizer of the " Skol " six-day races, which were held between 1968 and 1980 at Wembley Arena . He was also the sports director of the six-day race in Herning, Denmark , for ten years and in Hanover for three years .

In addition to his work as an organizer, Webb planned the construction of cycle racing tracks. From 1970 he built 46 small, mobile tracks that were used throughout Europe, especially for six-day races. The first permanent track he built was the one for the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 , and 15 others followed, including the Olympic tracks for Seoul in 1988 and for Athens in 2004 . Most recently he built the track for the Olympic Games in London and announced that he would retire afterwards.

In October 2011, Webb hit the headlines in Great Britain when it became known that as the planner of the Velodrome, he had not been invited to a single sports competition at the Olympic Games and had not received a single one when the tickets were drawn.

Ron Webb was considered the world's most renowned builder of cycle racing tracks next to Ralph Schürmann . He was also the representative of the Australian Cycling Federation in Europe. In 2006 he was awarded the Order of Australia . At the Australian Championships, the winners of the two-man team driving are awarded the Ron Webb Trophy every year .
