Ronald Dietmar Gerste (born March 28, 1957 in Magdeburg ) is a German historian , journalist and ophthalmologist . He is the author of numerous non-fiction books and lives near Washington, DC

Life

Ronald Gerste studied medicine and history at the University of Düsseldorf , which made him Dr. med. and in 1994 Dr. phil. PhD . As a journalist and non-fiction author, Gerste has published numerous articles on American and English history. He writes regularly for the surgical general and the magazine for practical ophthalmology .

As a correspondent in the USA, he mainly works for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the Deutsche Ärzteblatt . In the Neue Zürcher Zeitung he is represented in the column Mainly healthy . He also writes on American and British history topics in Die Zeit and American travel topics in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .

His books focus on American history, especially that of the presidency. In 2009 his biography of Abraham Lincoln was published , in 2012 the first travel guide in German to the presidential houses and presidential libraries of the USA. A biography of John F. Kennedy was published in May 2013. In October 2015 his book on the influence of weather on historical events and on climate change over the past 2000 years was published.
