Ronald Muldrow

Ronald Muldrow (born February 2, 1949 in Chicago , Illinois , † January 31, 2007 in Los Angeles ) was an American guitarist of soul jazz and hard bop .

Live and act

Muldrow founded his own bands in high school. He studied jazz at Roosevelt University in Chicago (Bachelor) and deepened his studies in studio and jazz guitar at the USC Thornton School of Music (Master). He first worked with the Staple Singers and also played with Willie Bobo , Les McCann and Dizzy Gillespie . He was best known for his work with Eddie Harris , whom he referred to as his musical father and with whom he worked for more than 20 years since the late 1960s. Recordings such as That Is Why You're Overweight (1976) or I Need Some Money (1975) became known and toured with Ronnie Laws and Maceo Parker . With the formation Dizzazz of the singer and saxophonist Luther Thomas he appeared at the jazz festival in Moers . In 1992 he appeared again on an album by Eddie Harris ( Listen Here! ). From 1996 he appeared regularly in clubs in Los Angeles with his own bands , but also played at the Newport Jazz Festival .

His guitar style was influenced by the jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery , to whom he dedicated an album.
