Life

After graduating from high school, Ronald Weckesser studied at the TH Ilmenau from 1968 to 1972 and graduated with a diploma . From 1973 to 1975 he did his basic military service with the NVA . In the years 1975 to 1978 he received an apprenticeship at the TH Ilmenau. He then worked from 1978 to 1990 as a research assistant in research and development and later as a group leader at the Robotron combine in Dresden . After reunification , he worked as a technologist at SMT & Hybrid GmbH Dresden from 1990 to 1996 . He then changed his professional direction and from 1996 to 1999 worked as a research assistant for Christine Ostrowski, Member of the State Parliament and Bundestag in Dresden.

politics

Ronald Weckesser joined the SED in 1975 and remained a member of the successor party PDS after reunification . Within the PDS, he was a member of the Dresden City Council and the State Council of Saxony until 2001. At the municipal level he was city councilor from 1990 to 1994 and since 1994 city councilor in Dresden. In October 1999 he moved into the Saxon state parliament . There he was a member of the Committee on Environment and Agriculture and the Special Committee on Demographic Development and its Effects on People's Living in the Free State of Saxony and its consequences for political fields of action.

Weckesser was seen as a representative of the pragmatic wing, in contrast to the left-wing extremist or left-wing populist elements within his party. Outside of his party, he was known in Saxony as the "father of debt-free socialism".

In the dispute over the privatization of communal property, a group of left-wing MPs left the Dresden City Council faction of the Left Party ( Linkspartei.PDS ) in 2006 and declared themselves the actual faction of the Die Linke party . Weckesser remained together with Christine Ostrowski in the previous city council group and operated under Linksfraktion.PDS until 2009 .

From March 20, 2006 to October 26, 2007, Ronald Weckesser was a member of the administrative board of Landesbank Sachsen .

On September 11th, 2008 he approved a motion of the national alliance, to which the right-wing extremist NPD belongs, in the Dresden city council, in which it was a minute of silence to commemorate "for the victims of September 11th" and which found a majority because of it it was assumed that the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 were meant (later it was said that in reality the application was aimed at soldiers of the Wehrmacht who had fallen on September 11, 1944 ). Although Weckesser described this shortly afterwards as a clear political mistake and made it clear that “there could be no commemoration together with Nazis (…)”, demands were made for Weckesser to be excluded from the party. The group then called him from his posts as budgetary and fiscal Group spokesman and chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee, and initiated a process of elimination, which was set in December of 2008.

On June 1, 2009, Weckesser announced his resignation from the Left Party and criticized in particular the recently adopted federal election program and the party leader Lafontaine, whom he described as a “vengeful egomaniac”. After the state elections in 2009 , he resigned from the Saxon state parliament.
