Rosa Spier Huis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rosa Spier Huis is a living and working center for older artists and scientists . It is located in Laren , North Holland and was opened on October 11, 1969 by Marga Klompé , then Minister for Culture, Recreation and Social Work.

history

The idea for a “safe haven for older artists” came from the Dutch harpist Rosa Spier . The aim of the house was to enable older artists to continue devoting themselves to their work with energy. For this purpose, Spier's friend Henriette Polak-Schwarz set up the Rosa Spier Foundation, which eventually built the house.

The apartments in the old house offered space for 73 residents. In addition, there were (and are in the new house) communal facilities such as a library and a theater room. The complex was designed by Goldschmidt & Verbruggen and the garden by landscape architect Wilhelmina Jacoba Moussault-Ruys .

In 2008 it was announced that the municipality of Laren and the Board of Trustees were considering demolishing the house and building 68 new apartments. In a letter, the Bond Heemschut pointed out the great cultural and historical value of the house and garden. Since then, experts and stakeholders have tried to change the minds of the foundation and the community.

The house was not on the list of monuments and was demolished in May 2014.

The new building was inaugurated in winter 2019/2020. In addition to the 70 previous residents, around 50 new residents have moved in.
