Ross Thorne (born November 7, 1957 in Brisbane ) is a former Australian squash player .

Career

Ross Thorne was active on the PSA World Tour in the late 1970s and 1980s . His best finish in the world ranking he reached fourth place in August 1986. The Australian national team he took in 1979 , 1981 , 1983 , 1985 and 1987 at the World Cup in part. After a third place in 1979 Thorne reached with the team in 1981 the final against Pakistan , which, without Thorne, was lost with 1: 2. Third places followed again in 1983 and 1985, and in 1987 Thorne finished fourth with the team. Between 1980 and 1988 he was eight times in the main field of the individual world championships. His best performance was twice reaching the quarter-finals. In 1985 he was eliminated in this against Jahangir Khan , 1986 against Chris Dittmar .

He is married to Rhonda Thorne , née Shapland, who was also active as a squash player.
