Rostislav Dimitrov ( Bulgarian Ростислав Димитров , English transcription Rostislav Dimitrov ; born December 26, 1974 in Russe ) is a former Bulgarian triple jumper .
After he was eliminated in the qualification at the World Athletics Championships in Athens in 1997 , he won his first international medal at the European Championships in Budapest the following year . In the triple jump he finished third with 17.26 m behind Jonathan Edwards (17.99 m) and defending champion Denis Kapustin (17.45 m).
He celebrated the greatest success of his career by winning the silver medal at the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville. With a personal best of 17.49 m, he placed behind Charles Friedek (17.59 m) and in front of Jonathan Edwards (17.48 m). Earlier in the season, Dimitrov had already finished second at the World Indoor Championships in Maebashi . However, he was subsequently disqualified for taking ephedrine illegally .
In 2000 he won the silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Ghent and only had to admit defeat to Charles Friedek. At the Olympic Games in Sydney Dimitrov finished ninth and was second at the end of the season at the IAAF Grand Prix Final in Doha . At the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, he finished eighth, and ninth at the 2002 European Championships in Munich.
Rostislaw Dimitrov is 1.82 m tall and weighed 80 kg at competition times.
