The Rote Küppel is 377.9  m above sea level. NHN high elevation in the Taunus low mountain range . It is located near Wolfenhausen in the Hessian district of Limburg-Weilburg .

The Rote Küppel rises in the eastern Hintertaunus within the Taunus Nature Park . The summit of the mountain in the Wolfenhausen district is 0.75 kilometers (km) north of Wolfenhausen and 1.75 km east of Langhecke . The Koberg ( 460.5  m ) near Haintchen is about 3.75 km south . The Wolfenhäuser Bach rises 2.75 kilometers east of the Roten Küppel, which is called Laubusbach after the Herrenwiesbach tributary below Wolfenhausen .

Natural allocation

The Rote Küppel belongs to the natural area main unit group Taunus (No. 30), in the main unit Eastern Hintertaunus (302) to the natural area Steinfischbacher Hintertaunus (302.7).

Naming

The origin of the name "Rote Küppel" is probably related to the red iron ore mines around the mountain that were located in earlier centuries .
