The Rote Traun begins at the confluence of the Großwaldbach and Falkenseebach rivers in the local area of Inzell approx. 690  m above sea level. NN . Always accompanied by federal highway 306 mainly in a north-westerly direction. It crosses under the A8 and joins the Weißen Traun to the Traun north of Siegsdorf .
