The hamlet of Rothenbürg is part of the district town of Tirschenreuth in the Upper Palatinate . It is located about five kilometers west of Tirschenreuth city center in Stiftland . The place belonged to the municipality of Lengenfeld near Tirschenreuth , which was dissolved on July 1, 1972. Together with the town of Lengenfeld, Rothenbürg came to the district town of Tirschenreuth.

Rothenbürg first appeared in 1332 as "Rotenperch". The hamlet is probably named after the red soil in the area.

Nearby is the one and a half square kilometer Rothenbürger Weiher, one of the largest bodies of water in the area. It is a popular bathing pond.
