Ruben Spoden (born April 21, 1989 in Frankfurt am Main , Hessen ) is a German basketball player . He played for the Walter Tigers Tübingen until the end of the 2012/13 season . Until the 2015/2016 season he played for the s.Oliver Baskets from Würzburg . For the 2016/2017 season, Spoden moved to the second division White Wings Hanau in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . He succeeded his father, who was very successful as a top basketball player in Hanau for years.

Life

Spoden came into contact with basketball at an early age through his father Frank Spoden, who used to play in the Bundesliga himself. At the age of eight he started playing basketball in the basketball department of TuS Hornau. He switched to MTV Kronberg at an early age , where he was able to collect several successes in the youth field. After MTV Kronberg was eliminated in the fight for the German U16 championship, he decided to move to Frankfurt, where he went on basket hunt for Eintracht Frankfurt in the regional league at the age of 16 . The following year, Spoden joined the newly founded NBBL for Eintracht and advanced to one of the best players in the league with 19.1 points and 7.5 rebounds on average. His achievements were rewarded with the nomination for the NBBL-Allstargame 2007, where he competed in the Kölnarena with nine other NBBL players against the German U20 national team. In the league, but he could leaving his team in the playoffs to eventual German champions from boarding Urspringschule not prevent it.

Through these achievements, other teams became aware of him and so he got the chance to join TV Langen for the 2007/08 season , where he tried to win the NBBL title together with Robin Benzing and Kai Barth . It was also used for the first time in the newly founded 2. Bundesliga ProA for TV Langen. In the NBBL he increased his statistics and was able to achieve an average of 21 points per game despite a few minutes (with a field throw rate of 54.8% and a three-way rate of 41.8%). But after a hard-fought playoff series against TSV Breitengüßbach, TV Langen was eliminated and could only watch the final tournament in its own hall.

In the 2008/09 season Spoden was only active in the senior sector for the first time. In the ProA he was used for TV Langen in 17 games and was able to achieve 2.4 points and 1.8 rebounds. After this disappointing season for Spoden, he decided to switch to the Erdgas Ehingen / Urspring School team , where he played in the 2. Bundesliga ProB in 2009/08. He was able to justify the trust placed in him quickly and led the "Steeples" with 14.8 points and 5.1 rebounds at 52% FG to a good 4th place. His achievements were rewarded by being named “Youngster of the Month” by the young league.

Spoden's achievements did not go unnoticed and so he received a contract with Bundesliga club Walter Tigers Tübingen for the 2010/11 season , where he was used in nine games and achieved an average of 1.1 points. At the same time, thanks to a “double license” in the ProB, he continued to work for Ehingen and rose with the team to the ProA. From the 2011/2012 season Spoden was only active for the Walter Tigers Tübingen. Originally he still had a contract with the Walter Tigers Tübingen until the end of the 2013/2014 season, but he left Tübingen at the end of the 2012/13 season at his own request.

In July 2013, before the 2013/2014 season, Spoden joined the s.Oliver Baskets from Würzburg, for whom he played until 2016 and participated in relegation from the Bundesliga and direct re-promotion and played 58 Bundesliga and 30 ProA games. In 2016 he moved to the White Wings Hanau in the ProA - the club where his father was already active.

In the summer of 2017, Spoden declared his professional career over in order to concentrate on his studies and family obligations. He switched back to TV Langen and from then on played in the first regional league.
