Rudashevskyite is a very rare mineral from the mineral class of sulfides and sulfosalts . It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system with the chemical composition (Fe, Zn) S and forms polycrystalline, 5-120 μm large grains of black color.

Etymology and history

The mineral was first found in 2005 by Sergey N. Britvin, Alla N. Bogdanova, Maya M. Boldyreva and Galina Y. Aksenova in the Indarch meteorite near Şuşa in Azerbaijan ( Nagorno Karabakh ). They named it after the Russian mineralogist NS Rudashevsky.

classification

In the Strunz system , rudashevskyite is a metal sulfide with a ratio of metal to sulfur, selenium or tellurium of 1: 1. After the 8th edition forms the sphalerite group together with Coloradoite , Stilleit , Hawleyite , Polhemusite , Sphalerite , Metacinnabarite and Tiemannite . In the 9th edition it forms with these minerals and sakuraiite a subgroup of the sulfides with zinc , iron , copper or silver .

In the Dana systematics , with Coloradoite, Stilleit, Hawleyite, Sphalerite, Metacinnabarite and Tiemannite, it forms the sphalerite subgroup of sulfides, selenides and tellurides with the composition A m B n X p , with (m + n): p = 1: 1.

Education and Locations

Rudashevskyit formed in an accompanying phase of the Indarch meteorite. It is associated with Klinoenstatite , Kamacite , Troilite , Oldhamite , Niningerite , Schreibersite and Roedderite .

Only the type locality is known as the location.

Crystal structure

Crystal structure of rudashevskyite

Rudashevskyite crystallizes in the cubic crystal system in the space group with the lattice parameter a = 5.426  Å and four formula units per unit cell . The structure thus corresponds to the sphalerite structure.
