Rudi Reichert

Rudi Reichert (born November 17, 1922 in Güstin on Rügen , † August 7, 1999 in Rostock ) was a German sports official. From 1957 to 1961 he was the first President of the Federal Board of the German Gymnastics and Sports Federation (DTSB).

Life

After attending elementary school in Garz, Dumsevitz and Bergen from 1937 to 1941, the son of a farm laborer completed an apprenticeship as a metal worker and aircraft builder in Lübeck and Leipzig . He was then drafted into the army for military service and last served as a sergeant in the air force .

After the end of the war, Reichert joined the KPD and was incorporated into the SED in 1946 after the forced unification of the SPD and KPD . From 1946 to 1948 he was the first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Neustrelitz and at the same time a senior officer of the FDJ state leadership in Mecklenburg. After that he was chairman of the Mecklenburg State Sports Committee until 1950. From 1950 to 1952 Reichert was secretary and from September 1952 to 1957, as successor to Fred Müller, head of the German Sports Committee . At the same time, he was also President of the German Sailing Association from 1950 to 1957 . In 1951 he became a member of the NOK of the German Democratic Republic , in 1952 a member of the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sport, which was headed by Manfred Ewald . From 1955 to 1963 Reichert was a member of the Central Council of the FDJ. In order to end the two-pronged organization of GDR sport, on the one hand the German Sport Committee and on the other the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sport, the German Gymnastics and Sports Association (DTSB) was founded in 1957. Rudi Reichert became its first president. After some time, however, he was accused of “lack of tight management” and “insufficient fulfillment of tasks”. Reichert was therefore replaced by Manfred Ewald. At the II. German Gymnastics and Sports Day in Berlin on May 27th and 28th, 1961, he was elected as Vice President of the DTSB's federal board. He held this office until 1966.

Reichert had been a member of the Presidium of the National Council of the National Front since 1957 , from 1958 to 1963 also a member of the Central Committee of the SED and a member of the People's Chamber . After that he was still a member of the federal executive committee of the DTSB until 1989. After being voted out of office as vice president of the DTSB, he took over the office of DTSB chairman in the Karl-Marx-Stadt district from 1966 to 1974 . From 1970 he was also Vice President for Speed ​​Skating of the GDR Ice Skating Association. From 1974 to 1990 Reichert was director of the Warnemünde Sports School.
