Rudi Supek

Rudi Supek (born April 8, 1913 in Zagreb ; † January 2, 1993 ibid) was a Yugoslav communist , prisoner in Buchenwald concentration camp , resistance fighter against National Socialism and sociologist .

Life

Rudi Supek studied philosophy at the University of Zagreb and psychology in Paris . After the German invasion of France, he was interned in the Compiègne camp from 1942 to 1944 and then deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp , where he worked in the resistance as a member of the International Camp Committee (ILK) and took the Buchenwald oath . After the Buchenwald concentration camp was liberated by the 3rd US Army , he became a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia and continued his studies at the Sorbonne , where he received his doctorate in 1952. At the University of Zagreb he was first professor of psychology, from 1963 at the Institute for Sociology he founded at the University of Zagreb.

He was editor-in-chief of the magazine Pogledi (Views) published from 1952 to 1954 ; In 1964, together with other professors from the University of Zagreb, he founded the magazine Praxis and organized the summer school for the Praxis group .

After his death he was buried in the Mirogoj cemetery in Zagreb.
