Rudolf Bial

Rudolf Bial (born August 26, 1834 in Habelschwerdt , Province of Silesia , † November 23, 1881 in New York ) was a German violinist , composer , conductor and theater director.

Life

Bial received his musical education in Breslau, where he was employed as the first violinist in the chapel of the local theater at the age of 15. He was Kapellmeister in Lübeck from 1854 to 1856, then went on a concert tour to Australia as a violin virtuoso together with his brother Karl, became Kapellmeister at August Conradi's position at the Wallner Theater in Berlin in 1864 and headed the Kroll Theater from 1876 to 1879, whose repertoire he refined by caring for German and Italian opera. In the last year he moved to New York. There he directed a concert band.

Rudolf Bial died in New York in 1881 at the age of 47.

His brother Karl Bial (1833–1892) worked as a piano virtuoso, composer and music teacher in Berlin. He left behind several pieces for piano and songs.

Among Rudolf Bial's compositions, some of which have become popular (130 numbers in total), his operetta Der Herr von Papillon (1868) had the greatest success.
