Rudolf Braun (technician)

Rudolf Braun (born January 24, 1920 in Lenzburg , canton Aargau ; † February 1, 1999 in Unterengstringen , canton Zurich ), reformed , resident in Lenzburg, was a Swiss environmental engineer and university lecturer .

Life

Born in Lenzburg, Rudolf Braun, son of the musician Emil Braun and Emma Elisabeth, born Hufschmid, graduated from the canton school in Aarau in 1939 . From 1940, Braun devoted himself to studying natural sciences at the ETH Zurich . After graduating, he took up an assistant position at the Geobotanical Institute of the ETH Zurich, in 1946 he received a scholarship from the University of São Paulo to research the water resources of the Amazon with regard to the settlement of Brazil . In 1948 Rudolf Braun returned to the ETH Zurich, in 1951/52 Braun took botanical-hydrobiological study trips to the Sahara , Nigeria , Chad and Cameroon .

After Rudolf Braun received his Dr. sc. nat. After receiving his doctorate , he became head of the Institute for Qualitative Water Management and Hydrobiology at the Technical University of Karlsruhe in 1952 , the following year head of the limnology department at the Aarau cantonal laboratory and in 1955 head of the solid waste department at the Swiss Federal Institute for Water Supply, Wastewater Treatment and Water Protection (EAWAG) at ETH, a position he held until he retired in 1987. In addition, he held the extraordinary professorship for waste disposal at the ETH from 1970 and the full professorship from 1973 to 1987 .

In 1951, Rudolf Braun, who was awarded the silver medal and the Kern Prize from the ETH Zurich for his dissertation, is considered a pioneer of efficient environmental protection and a veteran of Swiss waste management.
