Rudolf Burger (born August 11, 1839 in Burg ; † December 1, 1917 there , reformed , resident in Burg) was a Swiss entrepreneur and politician (FDP) .

biography

Rudolf Burger was born in Burg on August 11, 1839, the son of the farmer and blacksmith Johann Jakob Burger. After attending the district school in Reinach , Rudolf Burger initially worked as a farmer and timber dealer. In 1864 he founded a tobacco factory together with Rudolf Eichenberger, which was later run under the company name Burger Söhne . To this end, he had his own factory built in 1867. Subsequently, he expanded his business area to include wine trading and gravel mining.

In addition, he acted as a co-founder in 1888 and subsequently as a member of the board of directors of Volksbank Reinach. In 1890 he financed the water supply for Burg and Menziken from his own resources .

Rudolf Burger, father of the entrepreneur and liberal politician Rudolf Burger junior, was married to Elisabeth, née Wirz, and her second marriage to Maria Bertha, née Fröhlich. He died on December 1, 1917 at the age of 78 in Burg.

Political offices

Rudolf Burger, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, was a member of the Burg municipal council from 1864 to 1890 , which he also chaired as Ammann from 1868 . At the cantonal level, he represented his party in the Aargau Grand Council between 1868 and 1873 . He also served as a constitutional councilor between 1884 and 1885 .
