Karl Rudolf Chowanetz

Karl Rudolf Chowanetz , often also Rudolf Chowanetz (born January 3, 1933 in Bielitz ; † January 26, 2000 in Schöneiche ) was a German editor-in-chief of the GDR children's magazines ABC-Zeitung , Bummi and Die Drum and from 1975 to 2000 head of the youth book publisher Neues Life .

Life

Chowanetz, son of a master in an oil refinery and a housewife , attended elementary school in Bielitz until the end of World War II in 1945 and then moved with his family as a displaced person to Stralsund , where he completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith by 1949 .

In 1950 Chowanetz joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and remained a member until his death even after it was renamed the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS). As a pioneer leader, he was a full-time functionary of the Free German Youth (FDJ) in Velgast until 1955 . From 1955 to 1957 he was the chief sergeant in the barracked people's police (KVP). From 1958 to 1960 he was department head in the Central House of Young Pioneers in Berlin.

From 1959 to 1964 Chowanetz completed a distance learning course , which he completed as a qualified pedagogue . From 1961 to 1963 he was editor-in-chief of the GDR-wide children's magazine ABC-Zeitung and Bummi . From 1963 to 1975 Chowanetz was editor-in-chief of the magazine Die Drum , which was the central organ of the Young Pioneers in the GDR.

From 1975 to 2000, Chowanetz was the successor to Hans Bentzien and head of the youth book publisher Neues Leben in Berlin, where he initiated the Karl May edition.
