Rudolf Daber

Rudolf Daber (born June 1, 1929 in Landsberg an der Warthe ) is a German paleontologist and geologist . From 1974 to 1980 he was chairman of the Society for Geological Sciences of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and director of the Museum of Natural History in Berlin . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Daber ".

Life

Daber, son of a journalist , studied geology from 1947 to 1951 at the Martin Luther University in Halle (Saale) and at the Humboldt University (HU) in Berlin . In 1954 Daber received his doctorate and in 1957 his habilitation . After three years as a lecturer , he became Professor of Paleobotany and Director of the Institute for Paleobotany and the Museum of Natural History at HU Berlin in 1961 .

In 1961 Daber became deputy chairman and 1974 chairman of the Society for Geological Sciences of the GDR and remained so until 1980. From 1983 to 1986 he was professor of geology at the University of Maputo in Mozambique . Today he lives in Berlin.

Daber's main research interests are studies of the development of the plant world in the history of the earth , in particular the carbon flora .
