life and work

From 1877 to 1880 Eichstaedt attended the University of Fine Arts in Berlin, after which he worked in the Georg Bleibtreu atelier on his historical wall paintings. Historical materials were also the focus of Eichstaedt's work later on. Under Friedrich Geselschap , the artist worked on allegorical depictions of fame for the Berlin armory .

Eichstaedt went on study trips to Paris and Italy , where he stayed longer. After traveling to Paris for studies in 1889 and to Holland in 1890 , he took up residence in Berlin. In addition to historical subjects, Eichstaedt mainly painted genre scenes and portraits . In addition to depictions of historical personalities such as Blücher and Prince Wilhelm , he created paintings of artist personalities such as Johann Sebastian Bach , Ludwig van Beethoven and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe who had already died . His painting met with general approval because of the liveliness of the depiction, the warmth of the sensation and the virtues of its color . Numerous engravings and reproductions have been made from his paintings .
